21 to drink is a mistake…

Now he tells us:

“Legal Age 21 has not worked.” Of course, any 20-year-old could, and probably would, tell you that. But the quote in question was written by Dr. Morris Chafet, a psychiatrist who served on the presidential committee that pushed to have the legal drinking age raised to 21. That push paid off on July 17, 1984, when President Ronald Reagan signed the new drinking age into law.

Since that time, however, Chafet has apparently had a change of heart. The Los Angeles Times reports that in an editorial that has yet to be published, Chafet describes his effort to raise the drinking age as the “single most regrettable decision” of his career. “To be sure, drunk driving fatalities are lower now than they were in 1982,” Chafet notes. “But they are lower in all age groups. And they have declined just as much in Canada, where the age is 18 or 19, as they have in the United States.”

Harry Reid: Puns & Passing the Buck

Standard

Whenever Reid appears, it is evident why the Congressional Democrats can’t effectively manage the Blue Dogs, communicate to insured Americans the bad deal they are currently getting, and execute an agenda all of them campaigned on for 2 years?

[Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)] accused the media of inflating the importance of an August finish.

“You folks have created the deadline,” Reid chided, asserting that President Obama’s original goal was simply to pass legislation by the end of the year.
[…] At a press conference with family physicians, Sens. Reid, Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) discussed the legislation in language liberally laced with medical metaphors.

“America’s had a check-up and the prognosis is not very promising,” Reid opened.

“You’ve heard the diagnosis,” warned Durbin, “the health care system is chronically ill.”

Buddy’s Watching You

Thinking about the 44-6 drubbing the Eagles put on the Cowboys to end Romo and friends season reminded me of the “Bounty Bowl”. Sports writer Ray Didinger recounts the “Bounty Bowl” and a certain Cowboys kicker who had a star turn with the Eagles:

It was Thanksgiving Day in Dallas, but Luis Zendejas wasn’t in the mood to celebrate. The game ended and Zendejas, the Cowboys’ kicker, walked towards the Eagles’ bench. He was looking for Buddy Ryan.

“I wanted to deck him,” Zendejas said. “If I could’ve found him, I would have. He’s the biggest S.O.B. in the league.”

The date was Nov. 24, 1989. The Eagles crushed the Cowboys, 27-0, but that wasn’t the big story. The real headline was Zendejas’ claim that Ryan put a $200 bounty on his head. A bounty? On a kicker? What? Continue reading

Cowboys huntin’ Eagles?

I cannot stand the Cowboys. Giants, hate em. Skins…disgust. I am an Eagles fan, its part of the fun! This story, no fun involved:

Twenty-eight-year-old Damian Alexander of Cordova was acquitted Wednesday of attempted murder but was convicted of first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say Alexander fired between two and five rounds from a shotgun at an SUV that was driving away from his home on the evening of Dec. 28. Two people were wounded. Prosecutors say Alexander had arranged for a fist fight with a man in the vehicle but brought a gun instead.
