Full Time Jack Move? Paul & Cuccinelli accused of copying w/out credit?

Standard

Rand Paul (& Ken Cuccinelli) may have been caught stealing homework again!

The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank reported that Paul originally drafted the class action suit he filed under former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s (R) name with the help of Bruce Fein, who recently served as an attorney for former NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s father.

From the Post:

But a Jan. 15 draft of the complaint written by Fein has long passages that are nearly identical to those in the complaint Cuccinelli filed Wednesday. Except for some cuts and minor wording changes, they are clearly the same documents.

Fein’s ex-wife and spokeswoman, Mattie Fein, told Milbank that Cuccinelli stole “the work product, intellectual property and legal genius of Bruce Fein” without payment.

She added that Paul, who “already has one plagiarism issue, now has a lawyer who just takes another lawyer’s work product.”

Plagiarism is becoming Rand Paul’s primary campaign plank.

Still an establishment Democratic problem

Standard

Still an establishment Democratic problem: Cory Booker, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden didn’t actively support Barbara Buono. President Obama only stepped out for Buono at the last minute. Chris Christie was awarded New Jersey by a state Democratic party that traded favor for benefit, local Democratic officials cowed bullying and national Democrats playing the long game for themselves. Too long. Leftward distinction from the 2016 primary field on Iraq war gave Barack Obama an in to primary victory. Buono should have been supported by any one of the 2016 hopefuls to at least prevent Christie from walking into the 2016 Republican presidential primary unscathed. That fight against Christie the bully would be a virtue for any 2016 hopeful.

Barbara Buono

She was on our side. Establishment Democrats weren’t on hers.

National Dems are personally lucky Christie is embroiled in this scandal of his own making, but did the rest of the party (especially New Jerseyans) no favors. It seems Christie may have hobbled his 2016 chances, but as governor he can still stop Democratic initiatives like building a state exchange for Obamacare, distributing Sandy relief funds or signing the marriage equality bill passed by the state legislature. For Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, these should have been worthy enough reasons for him to risk some political capital supporting Buono and the wishes of his party’s primary voters. Buono wasn’t the best candidate is the boilerplate excuse. Buono was never given the chance to get better by the establishment after being deemed the best by Democratic primary voters. They showed a serious distrust of an electorate who deemed Buono the best candidate available which is what every primary mandate amounts to.

Establishment Democrats consistently forget they can still win the middle of the electorate, the perpetual undecided, by not being ashamed of being a Democrat even when they may lose.

as cold as you can get

This is as cold as you can get:

“A tragedy is when a single mother dies of cancer or a family dies in a car accident. That’s a tragedy. This situation is sad, but it wasn’t unexpected and we could see this coming,” Grenell said, adding that the media should not “glamorize” Hoffman’s death.

The observation seemed to leave liberal commentator Bill Press stunned.

“Well, I don’t mean to quibble but I think it’s a tragedy when a father of three young kids dies suddenly at the age of 46,” Press said, drawing a disagreement from Grenell.

“It wasn’t sudden,” Grenell said.

“Yes, it was,” Press shot back.

tragedy – noun
“an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe.”

Grenell’s contemptous regard for Hoffman’s humanity is inherent in his narrow re-definition of “tragedy”.

Esquire: “Public company corporate profits have nearly quadrupled under…Obama’s Watch”

Obamanomics:

This means stronger balance sheets that could keep the next wave of economic hard times from becoming another crisis. Plus, unemployment has gone down. There’s been job growth in some industries, particularly in energy exploration and production. Does Obama deserve credit for this turnaround? You bet. These corporations made a lot of their money by cashing stimulus checks.

Smithsonian: Tar Stands Report

Standard

The flimsy argument advanced by the State Department has been shredded even further by a new report that you can read about in Smithsonian. The whole project is a slow-rolling ecological catastrophe from start to finish. To this list of concerns, we can now add another. A new study, published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that production in the Athabasca oil sands region is leading to the emission of levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons PAHs two to three orders of magnitude higher-that’s one hundred to one thousand times greater-than previously thought. These higher levels of PAHs in the area aren’t imminently dangerous they’re comparable to levels found in urban areas, which result from burning gasoline in cars and trucks, but they’re significantly higher than reported in mining companies’ environmental impact assessments and Canada’s official National Pollutant Release Inventory.

“Rescheduling” is “zero sum”

Standard

So administrative rescheduling would not make “medical marijuana,” or any other kind, legal at the federal level. Its practical effect would be identically zero. What’s actually needed in the way of administrative action is to get the DEA and the Public Health Service out of the way of medical research, by breaking the University of Mississippi monopoly on research cannabis and eliminating the requirement that researchers using cannabis but no other controlled drug have the material “granted” to them by a federal agency rather than just going out and buying it. The Obama Administration can and should be criticized for not having taken those steps. But “rescheduling” is a red herring dragged across the trail of policy reform.
